Postfix issues after upgrading mariadb (was: initial comments)

Here are my initial observations on problems with postfix after running system update. The following packages were updated:

starting full system upgrade
upgraded cronie (1.4.9-5 -> 1.4.11-1)
installed libaio (0.3.109-7)
upgraded libmariadbclient (5.5.33.a-2 -> 5.5.34-3)
upgraded dovecot (2.2.8-1 -> 2.2.9-1)
upgraded gcc-libs (4.8.2-4 -> 4.8.2-5)
upgraded gcc (4.8.2-4 -> 4.8.2-5)
upgraded libldap (2.4.37-1 -> 2.4.38-1)
upgraded libnl (3.2.22-1 -> 3.2.23-1)
upgraded libpcap (1.4.0-1 -> 1.5.1-1)
upgraded mariadb-clients (5.5.33.a-2 -> 5.5.34-3)
upgraded mariadb (5.5.33.a-2 -> 5.5.34-3)
upgraded pigeonhole (0.4.2-3 -> 0.4.2-4)
upgraded python (3.3.2-2 -> 3.3.3-1)

After this postfix was not able to get any mail delivered with following error messages:

postfix/smtpd[4099]: warning: problem talking to service rewrite: Success
postfix/master[3853]: warning: process /usr/lib/postfix/trivial-rewrite pid 4261 killed by signal 6
postfix/master[3853]: warning: /usr/lib/postfix/trivial-rewrite: bad command startup -- throttling
postfix/smtpd[4003]: warning: problem talking to service rewrite: Connection reset by peer

Reverting the updated packages back solved the issue for now.

Are you using Dovecot? If so, did you restart it after the upgrade?

$ pacman -Q|egrep '(postfix|dovecot|pigeonhole)'                                                                                                                     
dovecot 2.2.9-1                                                                                                                                                                   
dovecot2-antispam-hg 51-1
pigeonhole 0.4.2-4
postfix 2.10.2-1

..and everything works fine.

I'm and I did restart the services and then the machine as the service restart did not do any good.

OK, finally had time to look this again. The problem seems to be mariadb. Leaving everything else updated but downgrading mariadb gets mail flowing again. The funny thing is that testing the db connection with postmap -q seems to work ok, so I'm not really sure where the problem is. I'd make a bug report on this, but simply saying that it doesn't work is not really much of an report, so any ideas where to look?
