How to split a wiki page retaining the history on both copies [solved]

I have been working on the LIRC wiki page this morning and want to split the main article from a rather lengthy section retaining the history of both copies.  Is this possible?

No way unfortunately, some references:
* http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/MediaWiki_ … it_History
* http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Administrators
* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Splitting

The way I recommend you to do it is (let's say A is the original page, B is the split one that retains the history and C is the split one without the history):
1. Create C like a new article with the split content from A; make sure to indicate very clearly in the edit Summary the source of that content, using a link to [[A]]; the time and date of the edit will make it easy to find the pre-split revision in A's history
2. Edit A and remove the split content, writing very clearly in the edit Summary that it's gone in [[C]]
3. Move A to B: this will move all the history to B; again, make reference to the "sibling" page [[C]] in the edit Summary

Thanks for the reply... I don't understand 3... please have a look at the LIRC page.  I did 1 and 2.

I think you've done a great job! It's very easy to scan the history of an article when the summaries are well written.
Forget about step 3, I thought you wanted to create two new titles, instead you've left LIRC there ^^
