Acer Aspire V7-482pg-6662 install issues

I followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … tion_Media to dd the archlinux-2013.12.01-dual.iso image to my 512MB usb stick. Not sure if it's big enough or not so I might have to fix that.

At first I got a black screen after it booted but adding nomodeset fixed things.

Right now I'm suck on this error:

:: Mounting '/dev/loop0' to '/run/archiso/sfs/root-image'
Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 57401 etc.
SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0xe039bc7
SQUASHFS error: unable to read id index table
mount: /dev/loop0: can't read superblock
ERROR: Failed to mount '/dev/loop0'
Falling back to interactive prompt
You can try to fix the problem manually, log out when you are finished
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off

I think your usb stick wasn't big enough, Arch Linux download page says, that the image has 522 MB. It would also explain that squashfs error. Try to use bigger stick.

English isn't my first language.
Is Arch Linux user called archer? Where are our bows and arrows?

Re: Acer Aspire V7-482pg-6662 install issues

Some more notes (mainly for me).

I couldn't figure out how to get stuff to work with my custom usb (which I built with archlive), so I disabled UEFI and managed to install Arch that way. The problem is that now I can't boot into Windows 8. (hd0,4) doesn't seem to be working although /dev/sda4 is the right C:\ partition.

The next problem was not being to get xserver working. I had installed all the proper packages as per the wiki. After some googling, I found that if I uncommented

BusID "PCI:01:00:0"

from

/etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nvidia

.

Next step is to install gummiboot so that I have a UEFI boot manager again.

Note: For some reason wifi is unreliable for me, so install via wired connection!

Edit #1: So my EFI issues.

I needed to

modprobe efivarfs

but everything kept telling me

modprobe efivars

(note the missing f). But that doesn't help me issue with the missing

/sys/firmware/efi/efivars

although that's most likely cuz I had to boot in legacy mode instead of UEFI?
