Im not getting any sound with a .mkv video that I have.. using mplayer..
is there a codec I could install?

what is the output if you start the file with mplayer? i think you coul see from there if there is a sound or not..

I know this is codecs fault.. no codec to decode the sound, therefore no sound.. only with mkv files.
Sound works with other files, such as avi, mpeg mp3..

Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option.

MKV files work fine on my mplayer. Here are all the codecs I've got installed:

There'll only be one that provides support for it, and I think it's the 'codecs' package that comes with Arch Base (though I may be wrong).
It sounds like it may very well be something wrong with your file...

very likely that mkv file uses the m4a codec for sound, can't find it in pacman though
