Resume from suspend broken

Hi guys,

i have an old acer 5920G laptop with an NVIDIA 8600M GT with arch linux, nvidia proprietary drivers and kde4, all up to date.
suspend to ram/resume has worked perfectly for years.
after an update that could have happened about an year ago (can't tell anything better, 'cause i wrongly  thought that was a temporary issue that the following updates would solve) now when i resume my notebook, I get the kde login screen instead of my previous session.

i took a look at the Xorg log file, journalctl, dmesg, but can't find any real error log message regarding the resume stuff.
do you have any suggestion on where i can start digging to debug this?
