Hello,
My laptop has two speakers beneath the screen and a subwoofer to enhance sound quality. There's a Beats logo on it, but honeslty I think it's nothing more than the subwoofer. My previous HP laptop from 2006 had Altec Lansing speakers with no special software or subwoofer and sound quality was great. I feel like I walked into a trap with this...
My new HP Envy 17t sounds great in Windows, but on Arch, without the Beats software, the subwoofer doesn't turn on and the speakers alone work fine, but they are not not even worth listening to...
I've tried several things to make the subwoofer come up, but none worked, so maybe someone had better luck.
I'll post the relevant configuration here, but if there's any other output that is worth looking at, please let me know and I'll post it.
Here's my hardware:
[leandroaveiro@leandroaveiro ~]$ lspci | grep Audio
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio Controller (rev 06)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset High Definition Audio Controller (rev 05)
I've installed alsa and pulseaudio.
Here's my alsa.conf file:

I had to change the following lines from "0" to "1", otherwise it would default to the sound card controlling HDMI sound and I wouldn't have any sound at all:

Attempt 1 - alsa-base.conf file
Several websites tell you to add one of the following option to your /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file, but they didn't work either:
options snd-hda-intel model=ref
Or
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
Interesting thing is that my installation of alsa did not create a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file. I had to add it manually. I don't know if this could point to something wrong in the installation.
Since it didn't make any difference, I deleted the file.
Attempt 2 - HDA Analyzer
Following the instructions from the Arch wiki here I tried installing the HDA Analyzer. But i couldn't get it to work. I keep getting the following output when running it:
[root@leandroaveiro tmp]# python2 run.py --monitor
Please, install pygtk2 or python-gtk package
Using temporary directory: /dev/shm/hda-analyzer
You may remove this directory when finished or if you like to
download the most recent copy of hda-analyzer tool.

I did change the python references to python2 and I have the gtk packages installed.
Attempt 3 - hda-jack-retask
This application is also referrenced by several sites, and it seems that many people were successful with it, but I couldn't find any references to its use within Arch. It can be downloaded from the AUR though.
It presents with you a GUI to remap the sound I/Os, and after you're done it attemps to write something to ~/.pulse directory.
This directory was not created by my installation of pulseaudio. This website instructs you to create a symlink from ~/.pulse to ~/.config/pulse.
From there, the application seems to work fine, but after I'm done with it, I look at the dates and times of the files inside this directory and they don't seem to change, except the date on the folder itself. So I possibly whatever I do with this application is not taking effect.
Anyway, I've tried several different combinations with the I/O pins and nothing worked.
I am out of options. Hopefully someone has done better.
Thanks in advance!
