Temporary change of HandleLidSwitch in logind

What I want to do is have a command which changes the way logind handles the laptop lid switch from "suspend" to "lock" and vice versa.

Before I start I wanted to just check if there was not a saner way of doing this.

My approach would involve:

1) edit /etc/systemd/logind.conf to change the HandleLidSwitch entry
2) restart systemd-logind

This seems like a terrible approach, but I cannot seem to find anything in loginctl that would do a similar thing.
