I have a fresh re-install of Arch and I can't get flrec hard disk recorder to record sound, the little interface drop down menu won't lit me highlight audio formats like wav, mp3, ogg, etc. I have alsamixer and am able to throw out sound with it; the dependencies, libmad, libvorbis, and sox are installed like http://www.matteolucarelli.net/flrec/index_en.htm says should be, and (I think?) sox is built properly. Apparently sox's settings can be verified with 'sox -h', here's its output:
[wordstrings@DTR-Arch-Linux ~]$ sox -h
sox: error while loading shared libraries: libao.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
,not too pretty, so I tried http://blog.baboum.be/?p=48 but I copied /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf.d/, (my folder had a .d?). then ran '/sbin/ldconfig' and still, sox -h gave me the same output. Any ideas?

Do you have libao installed?

Installing libao was good, I'm now able to highlight wav, mp3, ogg, etc. options in the interface drop down menu, but when I record some sound and then go into my hard drive to hear the file I just made, it either has no sound or makes a horrible screeching noise upon opening. I don't know if this is worth anything, but here's the first couple of lines my command line spits at me when I launch 'sox'
[wordstrings@DTR-Arch-Linux qarecord]$ sox
sox: SoX v14.4.1
sox FAIL sox: Not enough input filenames specified
Usage summary: [gopts] [[fopts] infile]... [fopts] outfile [effect [effopt]]...
SPECIAL FILENAMES (infile, outfile):
- Pipe/redirect input/output (stdin/stdout); may need -t
-d, --default-device Use the default audio device (where available)
Odd that flrec worked with kernel 3.12.5-1... Any thoughts?

If you run 'rec' from a terminal, are the results any different?

Exactly the same output. Also; I just tried audacity and it don't record either.

If you say it worked with an older kernel, I'd suggest something like trying the LTS kernel to see if it is indeed a driver bug.

Alright; I'll read up on installing & setting up linux-lts, but lit me add that I am able to run audio (say, a drum machine) through my microphone jack and I am able to hear it coming out of my speakers. So; maybe that driver is ok and I have just missed some other piece of software, and or a setting variable?

Did you install flerc from this package?
The page lists fltk as dependecy which I don't see listed in your first post.
I don't implie this will solve it, but it is something to check out.

fltk is installed

Okay; I went:
pacman -S linux-lts
then:
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
and rebooted into kernel 3.10.25-1-lts, and tried to record some audio and it didn't work. I am 100% baffled by this problem and need help. Does anyone have any ideas??

OMG!!! I fixxed it!!
Hit F4 with alsamixer open in bash and go over to "Item: Digital Source [i2s in]" and just toggle it until you can record. I think changing it from "out something" to "in something" does the trick.
