Red screen when switching ttys, exiting X

Under multiple conditions, I find myself at a red screen. I think it is associated with my graphics drivers.

Shortly after switching to a different CLI tty while XFCE4 is running, I wind up at a complete, solid red screen ("red screen of death"). Sometimes, just typing "exit" as the username in SLiM, I am presented with the red screen.

I have found that typing "startxfce4" and pressing enter will make the red screen go away and XFCE come up.

I have done some research on this issue on the internet, but can't find too much information. Here are some logs and config files that may or may not be relevant.
