Steam chat without steam client.

What I would love is to run a light weight chat client which can connect to steam chat. Much like the android steam app or better an ncurses client. Is there any software out there for linux that can do this?

Re: Steam chat without steam client.

There are a plugin for Pidgin which use the protocol from the mobile client:

http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-opensteamworks/

It works fine but you friends will see you as "online on mobile device" because the protocol is only intended for that usage. Another problem I have is some messages is received two times but that is not a major issue. smile

You could also use the steam chat from Steam's website at: http://steamcommunity.com/chat/.

If you use bitlbee, maybe https://github.com/jgeboski/bitlbee-steam works for you. Haven't used it myself.
