problems connecting amarok to the internet

so I just downloaded amarok from the official repositories onto my gnome machine, it works fine locally but won't connect to the internet. (I would like to use it with last.fm and ampache) now looking at this website:
http://docs.kde.org/development/en/extr … forms.html

it suggests what to do if you have a proxy server and it seems that other people have had problems with amarok working due to that but I don't use a proxy server whatsoever. I can't figure out what's wrong, any ideas?

don't know if this'll help but this is some of the output when it is run with --debug (I focussed on lines that look related to connection to the internet)

amarok: [NetworkAccessManagerProxy] the server is redirecting the request to: KUrl("http://archive.org/download/freemusiccharts.songs/fmc.xml")
amarok: BEGIN: void AmarokDownloadHelper::requestRedirected(const KUrl&, const KUrl&)
amarok: END__: void AmarokDownloadHelper::requestRedirected(const KUrl&, const KUrl&) [Took: 0s]
amarok: [WARNING] .pls playlist: Unrecognized line: " "Length1=-1" "
