The screen goes dead before I can get to the tty. I cannot switch to another TTY. The problem happened spontaneously, I didn't upgrade, change any services, or install anything before this happened. Something of note is that KDM stopped working a few days ago spontaneously, so I just dropped it in favor of no display manager.
Before this happened, my laptop was on hibernate, and when I opened it to the tty and tried to log in, the screen went dead. I could still change tty's at that point, so I checked the journal. The only thing that failed was:
Failed to open private bus connection: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/1000/dbus/user_bus_socket: No such file or directory
Would really appreciate some help, I'd rather like to have Arch on this laptop.

I had a similar situation. Laptop mode tools was screen blanking on idle. Would not unblank until I reboot, where I can see the output during boot but at TTY login it would fade out blank again. Strangely, I had to login blind and startx. From there I edited laptopmode tools to not do screen blanking until I figured out what was really happening.
Sorry if this doesn't help, just thought I'd share in hopes that it does.

Hey, this worked, thanks a lot! So any idea on what I would disable? I don't have laptop-mode-tools installed...

EDIT: Great to hear that partially worked for you. I read your previous post wrong lol.

Well I don't have laptop mode tools installed, but I just fixed the blank screen problem by installing v86d . Thanks again.
