Most commands are not found

I am trying to install Arch on my lenovo W520. I have the UEFI enabled, and I chose the "Arch Linux archiso x86_64 UEFI" option in the boot menu. Now I am stuck and most commands in the Beginner's Guide don't work.

For example:
"loadkeys uk"                 --> sh: loadkeys: not found
"nano /etc/locale.gen"     --->sh: nano: not found
"iw dev"                          --> sh: iw: not found

I also think I have a problem with my wireless. When I type "ip link", I only get 2 devices, 1.lo   2.eth0 and no wireless card.

I am really confused. Any help is appreciated. big_smile

Edit1: I just started to watch a video on how to install Arch on youtube and I noticed I am not loggedin to the root account and actually the boot is not complete yet.
I uploaded a photo from my screen here http://imgur.com/a0FHlC0

Edit2: I used the SAME usb stick on another laptop with UEFI disabled and I can get to the shell as a root user!

Edit3: I don't know if it is usefull or not, but the background at the boot menu on my laptop is completely black without the blue+white "Archliunx" logo.

Re: Most commands are not found

You're not even getting out of the initramfs. The root filesystem isn't mounted and you're in a type of rescue mode.

Did you check the checksum of the image? What are you booting off of?

Re: Most commands are not found

Yeah I did check the MD5 checksum. From a usb stick, I used Rufus to build it.

Re: Most commands are not found

That's not some crap like unetbootin, is it? That WILL screw up the Arch boot image.

Re: Most commands are not found

I'll try to use the recommended method by Archwiki.

Re: Most commands are not found

I have been trying to create a USB to boot the Archlinux from it for the past 2 hours but I am just exhausted. The recommended method on archwiki did not work either.
I could not build it in windows, os I installed Ubuntu and created a usb using dd. But it does not work.

I get to the boot menu and after I choose "Arch Linux archiso x86_64 UEFI", the screen goes black and the system reboots. I have installed alot of different linux distros and I have not had a such a hard time ever.

What am I doing wrong?

It does not work is a pretty vague statement. What's the error message?

Re: Most commands are not found

I built the USB in windows using cygwin, then after choosin the "Arch Linux archiso x86_64 UEFI"  option in the boot menu the screen went black and nothing showed up, the system was getting too hot after 5 minutes and I shut it down. I tried it 3 more times and the same thing happened.

But using the USB I created in linux, using dd, after the boot menue I get a black screen for 1-2 seconds and then it reboots.

I am following the procedure from here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/US … tion_Media

I updated the original post, see Edit2

Re: Most commands are not found

It may be that the USB memory stick is defective - or the Arch iso you downloaded is corrupted. Check the checksums, see if they match with the one on the Arch download page. Preferably use the latest iso - it may be due to lack of roper hardware support by kernel in whichever version you are using.

You can also try booting with no ACPI or KMS to see if that solves your problem.
