[SOLVED] Xorg keeps crashing after update

Dear you,

Xorg crashes randomly since the last upgrade (xorg-server 1.15.0-5, xf86-video-intel 2.99.907-1 ).

Xorg log: http://pastie.org/8633180
Relevant part:

[ 560.568] (WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Input/output error

Configuration file, /etc/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf:

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
    Option "VirtualHeads" "2"
    Driver "intel"
EndSection

(but the same happens without the configuration file.)

Anyone having this problem?

Thanks,
Pietro

Edit: another (different) Xorg log: http://pastie.org/8634920

SOLVED: many days without crashes after changing "AccelMethod" to "uxa", see post #8.

Hi,

I'm also having troubles with the upgrade to 1.15 and 2.99.907 respectively although the stacktrace looks very different:

After searching for a while I found this bug reports: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73224 and https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/38335?opened=4955 . Although the traces are not identical it was the only relevant thing I managed to locate. However they discuss that X 1.15.. does not work with xf86-video-intel-2.21.15, but is supposed to work with 2.99.... Well - not for me smile I had to downgrade back to X 1.14 and xf86-video-intel 2.21. I hope this helps you to somehow fix your problem smile

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg keeps crashing after update

I have the same problem, but I can't downgrade, as xf86-video-ati always asks for Xorg 1.15 ...

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg keeps crashing after update

If you want to downgrade you must do that for the dependencies as well. Along with the xorg-server I had to downgrade xf86-video-intel as well as xf86-input-evdev and libgcrypt. There was also a package called glamor-egl, which was removed during the downgrade.

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg keeps crashing after update

You also need to downgrade everything that links to libgcrypt. If you need to downgrade, I suggesting using the Arch Rollback Machine to just downgrade everything to the day before the update.

Re: [SOLVED] Xorg keeps crashing after update

It's probably just coincidence, but since I moved the xorg configuration file in the right place (not /etc/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf as in my first post) I'm free from Xorg seg faults.

$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphic"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

Fingers crossed.
