openjdk7 package structure

I was under the impression that arch didn't have source packages, and instead if you wanted the source for a program you should use abs.

But there appears to be an openjdk7-src package described quite clearly as being the source package. What gives? There appears to be an abs "split package" (not sure if that's the right name for it) called java7-openjdk as well. Does that just duplicate the openjdk7-src package?

Re: openjdk7 package structure

java7-openjdk is a split package that has the info necessary to build 5 packages :
jre7-openjdk-headless
jre7-openjdk
jdk7-openjdk
openjdk7-src
openjdk7-doc

Incase you did 'pacman -S java7-openjdk' , you'd get all 5 packages, but most people don't need all of them.

As to why the openjdk7-src pacakge exists:  i don't know, you can try asking the devs that maintain it (their email addies are included in the  java7-openjdk PKGBUILD)

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
