I installed both those packages, and im using the official mozilla-firebird package.
As a user, both these plugins do not load. They show up as "working" in "about:plugins", but no flash/movies work. There are no error messages at bootup, but no 'plugin loading' messages either.
As root, they load just fine. Any ideas?

have you tried launching firebird from a terminal then browsing to a flash page and then seeing if there is any error output?
one thing you can try with the flash package is pacman -R it then reinstall. sometimes the symlink made in the .install file is not made properly and this could cause your problem despite the flashplugin being installed.
as for your other plugin issue i don't know as i am not familiar with that plugin at all.
as an aside someone on the email list enquired about somehow fixing the symlinking part of the flashplugin package. you may want to add your voice to that list by emailing the maintainer.

why not have the symlinks added in the post-install script as part of the package? just scan all normal directories and link there.... just an option

well actually the flashplugin package does do symlinking both in the pkg (for linking the flashplugin components to moz and firebird) and in a poat install script (for the libstdc symlink). it is the latter that needs to be handled some other way and it is also the latter that usually causes flashplugin issues.

As an aside here, I usually symlink the directories to some common directory (i.e. /usr/plugins/browser or something) - I do not symlink the contents as this can get messy especially if your forget one somewhere when updating mozilla/mozilla-firebird/etc. so the "plugins" directories don't actually exist they are just links to this common store of browser plugins.
