I recently solved a sound problem by adding my user to the 'audio' group to enable sound playback.
1. Are there any other groups i should have my user added to?
2. What is the effect of having my user added to the 'root' group?
3. Is there a website i can go to to find out what all of these user groups are for?

Well, the wiki install guide says users should at least belong to the "users, audio, and optical" groups.

You may also read /etc/udev/rules.d/udev-rules which groups are used and what kind of hardware is limited to them, and decide wether you will change the rule or add the user to a group.

wheel, if you intend to follow the wiki tutorial to gain su/sudo with no password.

I'm not sure. Normally adding a user to the 'wheel' group gives it root priveleges; however in arch you have to uncomment the bottom line in /etc/pam.d/sudo, otherwise you won't be able to use sudo even if you add your user to wheel.

A brilliant one is www.google.com ![]()

There's a decent book online that has a good description, I've tried to find it again and can't though mtrivs... try searching for 'linux file hierarchy' and see what comes up.
Thanks for the info
