[SOLVED]Problem with T440p UEFI boot with Linux

I have recently bought a Thinkpad T440p. I tried to install Arch with UEFI boot. However the T440p even cannot boot the installation medium. I also tried Fedora and opensuse, they both failed. Does anybody else come into the same problem?

Regards,

Re: [SOLVED]Problem with T440p UEFI boot with Linux

Ted Tso got one of these machines and has been writing about his issues on G+.  He doesn't appear to be using UEFI at all, but has bricked the motherboard a couple times trying to use it in bios mode.  Apparently, after a couple tries he figured out that having the motherboard set to do both UEFI and CSM booting was causing his issues.

So I guess maybe try turning off the CSM functionality (bios compatibility)?  Also, be careful with this machine and its firmware, as it is apparently known to have problems.

@WonderWoofy
Thanks, I alse found a github wiki about thinkpad Tx40 series problems. It seems to be a disaster for thinkpad haswell with Linux boot in UEFI mode.

Re: [SOLVED]Problem with T440p UEFI boot with Linux

Indeed, this is the feeling I get from reading reports of people's experiences.  But it seems that the T440p is worse than even the T440s or the T440.

I think you should just go with CSM for now and keep your fingers crossed for a firmware update that handles these issues.  Just remember to turn off UEFI booting or else you might end up in the same boat at Ted T'so.

This problem seems have been solved by recent bios update.
BIOS version 2.19

Nice.  Thanks for updating the thread.  This is something I was actually curious about, as these machines look quite cool.  Hopefully you are enjoying it.
