AMD Graphics Drivers

Hey community,
I am new to the Arch Community. I am done with my installation of Archlinux but now i want to install games on steam and its not working because of conflicts with catalyst-hook and mesa-libgl but when i delete mesa and the stuff that i can install catalyst-hook my system is fucked. Tested it out and had to reinstall my Arch.
I use x64 Arch and have a AMD HD 7850 2gb
If you could help me I would really appreciate that.

What version of Catalyst are you running and are you using Violo's xorg repos?

i have no catalyst running and i use a xorg114 repo from archlinux wiki

Yes when i do sudo pacman -S catalyst-hook
then this is coming

At wich point do you think mesa-libgl is necessary ?
You need a libgl, either from mesa or from catalyst.
You need to choose between the proprietary driver or the open-source driver.
So read the wiki first please.

Note: If pacman asks you about removing libgl you can safely do so.

Yes you can if you are installing catalyst-hook. catalyst-hook provides mesa-libgl

I read the thread several times, but i can't delete mesa-libgl because many programms need it.

it will be replaced by the catalyst version, does pacman ask you to remove all these packages ?

yes it asks me if i want to delete the packages. but it says that ati-dri and glamour-egl would need it so i cant delete it. Last time i deleted my window manager and installed the catalyst things but then i couldnt start xorg-server anymore so now i am carefully.

Both packages are from the open-source driver.
Did you already install the open source driver ? how ?
You need to remove all package from one driver if you want to use the other.
xorg_server is not a problem right now, you can work in tty2, install the propretary driver as explained in the wiki.
I think your problem is that you had not been able to configure amd driver the first time.

Whe I installed Archlinux I did pacman -S xf86-video-ati that was all. And now I have problems.

Follow the wiki instructions about installation and configuration.

If it is not working, come back with more information.

Remove open source driver and do it again :

pacman -Rs xf86-video-ati
ls -la /etc/ati/

post output of both command here.

It looks like you have installed catalyst without using pacman.
Do you remember how ?
you will have to manually remove it before going further.

i have another thing that i did. I downloaded a driver from AMD and tried to install it, i think thats it, because the installation worked half or so.

Was it today at 14h28 ?
So i guess you used "amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.run" to install.

If so go to the folder where you have this executable and run :

./amd-catalyst-13.12-linux-x86.x86_64.run --uninstall
ls -la /etc/ati/

if you don't have it anymore you can

/usr/share/ati/amd-uninstall.sh
ls -la /etc/ati/
