encfs - problem with folder ownership

I mounted a remote folder using sshfs. I can write to it just fine.

Then I tried to mount it as encfs. However, once this is done, I cannot write anything into the newly  created encfs folder.
The ownership of the encfs folder is 519:519 (user:group) and cannot be changed

$ sudo chown -R juha:users /mnt/tmd_enc
chown: cannot access ‘/mnt/tmd_enc’: Permission denied
