I'm not sure if this would work for KDE or not, but I use Xfce and to get adesklets up and running when it starts up, I placed a one-line script in the <code>~/Desktop/Autostart/</code> directory (I had to create mine) that looked something like this:
/usr/bin/adesklets --xfce4
I named the file <code>adesklets</code> (clever huh?) and then made sure it was executable...that was it. Perhaps someone knows an easier way?

for kde it's:
~/.kde/Autostart/
I think you can use konqueror to configure the autostart folder.

Hey in case anyone wanted to know, i was just poking around kde.org and found a sort of frontend to this operation, its appropriately named autostart.
Here is the link if anyone was interrested: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=32517
