something is eating CPU usage

HI

It is bit strange, it happend randomly. Sometime my laptop keep air fan still on {there not in full power} but I now that in other times they are silent {stoped}
At the moment I am not doing anything on laptop and checking htop and powertop iotop and not find any process which could used one of my cores in 100%.

I have this CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4750HQ CPU @ 2.00GHz

in htop and i7z I can see that core 4 is in 100% usage but not able to find out what is causing that.

any idea?

after restart it is okay, running few days with out problems but time to time this happend ....

thank you for help or tip

Re: something is eating CPU usage

When I compile via distcc, htop shows my cores is being used, but the processes using them don't show up in the table even when sorting on cpu %.  Maybe someone else has an idea to show the process and cpu usage.  Does top have a static output you can queue?

As usual some very obvious things I don't think you overlooked and I did not try. But you didn't mention them anyway:

There is this F2 button in htop where you can setup 'Display options' e.g. show or hide kernel and userland threads.

What about

ps -eo %C,%c | sort -k1,1 -t,
