I've installed Windows 7 under UEFI mode and now I want my Arch back too so I've created installation USB with Cygwin's dd and booted into it. This is what I've got:
Mounting '/dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201402' to '/run/archiso/bootmnt'
Waiting 30 seconds for device '/dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201402'
[sdb] No caching mode page found
[sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through //three times that
Device '/dev/disk/by-label/ARCH_201402' mounted successfully
This is probably not a problem as I was getting these messages every time while booting into fully working Arch with any USB drive plugged in. But then:
running cleanup hook [udev]
ERROR: Failed to mount the real root device
Bailing out, you are on your own. Good luck. //I could use some now
sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
What is strange (or not, I was never checking that before, maybe it's normal), 'ls /dev' returns sdb (USB pendrive) with two partitions while under Windows I can see only one: "ARCHISO_EFI". Is my USB stick broken or it's something else?
Edit: I've also noticed that Windows see the drive as 30MB in total while dd reported that it wrote 500+ of MiB... also, I've tried to change label to ARCH_201402 and to use Universal USB Installer instead of dd (but then it didn't even try to boot)...

Some motherboards have a feature to prevent USB to interfere with the system.
I'd suggest using a DVD install instead.

Didn't know that. I've already used DVD but I just felt so stupid as I coudn't setup simple USB stick... your post explains a lot. ;-)
