X crash

I finally updated to the new x server 1.15 now that the catalyst drivers seem to be okay with it.  Most things work fine,  except X crashes when I try and run videos from the command line using mplayer or cvlc.
I'd be very happy if someone could provide me pointers on how to track this down.

here's someone else reporting similar and a workaround:

thanks

Re: X crash

What's wrong with omitting the XV backend?

fglrx is closed source, no point in debugging it.

for mplayer just add line

vo=gl

or

vo=gl2

to ~/.mplayer/config something has wrong with video output.see The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill
