After upgrading from kernel 3.12.9 to 3.13.4 (booth x86_64 architecture) i detected system freeze after round about 0.5s of the login screen about 80% of the time.
So i first thought it coulbe be the the ati driver and uninstalled that via livecd/chroot.
But the same thing happens in comand line only mode.
Afterwards i setup at ssh server to get into the maschine if it is still running, but is was also not responding to that.
Downgrading to 3.12.9 solved the issue. In journalctl i could not find any usefull information.

I would try a bisect between 3.12 and 3.13. But before that, try v3.14-rc3.
There are other people on this forum probably reporting the same issue.

Could your problem be related?

I would try a bisect between 3.12 and 3.13. But before that, try v3.14-rc3.
Testing currently holds 3.13.5-1 if you want to try it. For 3.14-rc3 you might want to use the binary linux-mainline package from http://arch.miffe.org/

I tested the kernels you suggested with the following results:
3.13.5-1: does not work
3.14-rc3: does work
But i used the 3.14-rc3 binary you suggested.

This really sounds like the issue I have: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=177560.
In the next few days I will check my machine with ssh to see if its really the same issue but so far I think it is.

I have the same issue. My system is has the first intel i7 generation and appropriate chipset.
After upgrading the kernel to 3.13.5-1 the following things happened:
1) Text console - freeze after some seconds, followed by a reboot (reboot most of the time)
2) KDE environment - freeze before getting to the desktop screen, followed by a reboot (I've noticed the reboot just once)
The only suspicious things I've found :
1) Dmsg told me I had a "mce error" and then some of the cores were timing out.
There are no mce problems under 3.12.9.
I had to use archlinux iso and chroot to downgrade the kernel and be able to use my computer.

Could you all post your CPU + Chipset + Discrete GPU?
Furthermore, confirm if v3.14-rc3 fixes it.

Maybe related:
- upgraded kernel 3.12.9 to 3.13.5
- systems boots around 20% of the time
- otherwise, it freezes just after launching the boot process, black screen, absolutely no trace in the journal

Seems like a generic issue. I don't see anything in common. Except they are all Intel CPU's. But that is too broad probably.

Chiming in to mention that I'm having this freezing issue as well. /proc/cpuinfo, and I'm using an Nvidia GTX 670 (with proprietary drivers). Going to install linux-lts and see if it helps.
Update: LTS kernel caused more problems that I don't have the patience to solve.

I had exactly the same problem and also have an Intel cpu (core i3). I would be stuck in GDM and couldn't move the mouse cursor or use my keyboard. First I thought it was related to the new modular PS/2 keyboars support but after hours of trying random stuff, I now "solved" it by removing everything I had added to my kernel boot line (in my case: vga=XXX and threadirqs ) or simply using the Fallback image

I think i have the same problem. If i unplug my second monitor the problem goes away. Plug it back in and it comes back.

That seems like a different symptom.

Hey it is the same issue.
I just tried with one monitor and it works with 3.13.5-1.
Offline
I see people with radeon cards, nvidia cards and integrated intel cards (i3 -> i7). Also intel chips without integrated cards and whole variety of mobo's.
Yet, you all have 2 monitors right?

I can confirm this. 3.13.5-1 Does indeed work WITH ONE Monitor. I don't understand (╯°O°)╯︵ ┻━┻

I have three displays and can reproduce the issue.

So.......
anyone in for a bisect? .

Same problem and solution here.
Since 3.13 it freezes at kdm login and if I disconnect my TV it works normally !
Don't know if it could help but my hardware is as follow : i7 2600K, P67 chipset and a radeon HD4850 (with radeon driver)

The issue might be different for me then: I only have a laptop with a single display and the freeze actually occurs before anything can be logged in journal.
3.13.1 (from arch rollback machine) produces exactly the same symptoms.
