a lot of bugs works on yoga 2 pro with linux 3.13.5

Hey guys,  I’m trying get archlinux works on yoga 2 pro but I get lots of trouble and it seems that nobody posts this before.

1. Keymap problem, F1~F12 doesnt work, (well, F9 just turn off the screen without Fn), it seems that I need set keymap manually. But I don't know how.
2. The '\a' problem,God knows which key I hitted yesterday, now the system alarms everytime I over hit 'Up key' or others. Anyone knows how to turn off the alarm?

I guess this laptop is really attractive and there must be alot linuxer works with it right now.

Thank you very much!

Re: a lot of bugs works on yoga 2 pro with linux 3.13.5

xedchou, perhaps forum users are waiting for you to help yourself.  Both of these "bugs" are simply a matter of not having configured your system the way you want it.  Your desires are similar to a large portion of other users, so those configuration steps are very well documented in both the wiki and other forum topics.

What have you done to solve your own problems?  As a hint, these are not specific to that model.  The bell issue is identical to *every* other computer on which arch could run.  The function key issue is relatively common among laptops.  So maybe your search for "yoga 2 solutions" to the problems are unproductive as these are not "yoga 2 issues"; they are simply general configuration issues.

Here's a start that will show you how to explore your own problems:

Re: a lot of bugs works on yoga 2 pro with linux 3.13.5

I dont know if others met this problem, according to http://www.linlap.com/lenovo_ideapad_yoga_2_pro, the sound card should work just fine, but mine didn't.

There are two cards in yoga2,  _Intel Haswell HDMI_ and _Realtek ALC283_, but the first one doesnt seem to be a output audio card.

alsamixer

Has two options, for me, however, Intel Haswell HDML is the default, and there are only three options of this chip:

  • S/PDIF

  • S/PDIF 1

  • S/PDIF 2

, the other has normal options, but however Realtek chip is not the default card, although I can change volume for that card, still not work, headset doesn't work, either.
I tried

aplay -vv /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise. wav

and output is

Alsa lib pcm_dmix.c:1022:(snd_pcm_dmix_open)unable to open slave

Beep option works, I dont know why, any help?
Thanks very much.

Re: a lot of bugs works on yoga 2 pro with linux 3.13.5

Yeah, I read it, arccording to Wiki, it should be the problem I chose the wrong card, and I correct it, now my default audio card switched to _HDA Intel PCH_ with Realtek ALC283 chip, but still no sound when I

aplay -t wav my_music.wav

It outputed

Playing WAVE 'usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav' : Signed 16 bit little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono
aplay: set_params: 1239: Channels count non availale

.

with lsmod, I found that the module snd_intel is not used, the output is like

snd_hda_codec_hdmi     22378   4
snd_hda_codec_realtek  294191  1
snd_hda_intel          21738   0
snd_hda_codec          73739   3  snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep              6134    1  snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm                71032   3  snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
snd_timer              18992   1  snd_pcm
snd                    55132   9  snd_hda_codec_hdmi,snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer
snd_page_alloc         7017    2  snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm

In additional, both the HDA Intel HDMI and HDA Intel PCH use snd_hda_intel module.
And somehow speaker-test works.
I really dont know what is happenning, I do need help this time! Thanks agian!!!

Ok you should give more information. You say you read and followed the wiki, then why don't you show the output of the commands that the wiki tells you to do nor showing any of the configurations files that you might have changed?

I followed the Wiki to change the default audio card by /etc/asound.conf, I thought it's not necessary to paste it here.  I just tried vlc and it worked, since the error message is about Channel, so if it's the problem that I do not have the channel?(just guessing). Anyway aplay doesn't works

Re: a lot of bugs works on yoga 2 pro with linux 3.13.5

Hey guys I'm back, sorry for that I was not patient enough to find my own anwser. My sound problem doesnt bother me until I found that Firefox cant play sounds either.
Here is my /etc/asound.conf

pcm.!default {
        type hw
        card PCH
}
ctl.!default {
        type hw
        card PCH
}

if you want to know, I found that, as mentioned before, some application works (vlc)  and others not(aplay, still gave me the channel count non available, I dont know what that means).
aplay -l outputs

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC283 Analog [ALC283 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: HDMI [HDA Intel HDMI], device 8: HDMI 2 [HDMI 2]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Actually, the reason that PCH card switched to 0 is I add snd-hda-intel.index=1,0 in kernel parameters according to (the Gentoo Wiki told me that  firefox use card 0 as output no matter if it's default card or not)http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/ALSA#HTML5_ … ox_browser. And it didnt solve the problem.
I dont know if it's the same reason for no sound problem of   firefox and aplay, but it seems that all other fellow works fine with yoga 2.
I couldnt believe you guys never met the same problem, we use the same laptop after all, so, thanks alot for any help or hint.
