unable to load apple_gmux module when using bios boot with nvidia

I have a retina macbook pro 15". I need the apple_gmux module for backlight support.

apple_gmux loads fine when I use nouveau or the intel module.

The problem is I need the nvidia driver for graphics work. nvidia broke their support for EFI for my laptop recently, so I'm stuck with BIOS boot. The combination of nvidia and BIOS results in apple_gmux not loading properly, with an entry in dmesg of "apple_gmux: gmux device not present".

Is this entirely in nvidia's court? Anything I can do, either through loading the module in an interesting way or otherwise to get apple_gmux to load?

did you try to specify the pci device in xorg settings and force the gmux to screen that device? latest update did some strange things to me too (9400m, 9600m gt here).

nah, unfortunately that doesn't change anything for me
