Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

Hi,

I have  new microsoft wireless mouse which scrolls(with the middle scroll wheel)  too fast.

I don't use kde or gnome but openbox and sometimes xmonad. I want to know how I can slow the scrolling down.

I have come across many kde fixes for this, but no general or xorg fix.

PS: I have a dual boot and with windows 8.1, it works perfectly.

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s … stion/9200

So theoretically this is possible by adding
Option "VertScrollDelta" "6"
to mouse section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf

But I just try this and did not work.

EDIT: Microsoft gear tends to be somewhat 'stubborn' to work under Linux.

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

This didn't help. It didn't change anything in the scroll behavior.

Following helped.
After booting into linux if  I remove the receiver of the mouse and keyboard and insert it again, it works properly. But this doesn't seem to be a practical solution.

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

Maybe your mouse has a dedicated udev rule that is not included in your initcpio. Another explanation could be a driver race. You could post your dmesg.

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

Hi,

Here are the dmesg outputs.

1. Before re-inserting the receiver i.e. just after booting. At this point the scrolling speed is too fast and the mouse does not work properly.

2. After re-inserting the receiver i.e. the events created by removing and inserting are added to the previous dmesg. At this point the scrolling speed is normal and  the mouse works properly.

3. The diff of  1 and 2

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

I'm starting to suspect it's a driver bug. Maybe a race condition.

This happens all the time?

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

Thanks for the help, I think I have to live with the re-inserting solution for now.

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

Well, not necessarily.

In /sys there is a directory for each driver. In this directory you will find:

- bind file
- unbind file
- addresses of connected devices (I hope)

You can use those addresses and echo them into the bind/unbind file. This way you could perform a replug in 'software'.

Need help?

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

Hi,

It would be great to be able to do a software replug.

I would certainly  need help. Three are a lot of things under /sys. How can I find the relevant stuff for mouse ?

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

To narrow it down:

find /sys -name bind

Re: Microsoft wireless mouse scroll speed too high

Have you ever found a solution to your problem? I have it and it sucks to have to unplug/replug the receiver from/into the usb port.
