linux-rt: fan always on

Hi fellows,

I just installed linux-rt from AUR, and now fan is always on.
That doesn't happen when I boot with vanilla kernel.

"sensors" gives me:

acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:        +73.0°C  (crit = +106.0°C)
temp2:        +29.8°C  (crit = +106.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0:  +73.0°C  (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 0:         +73.0°C  (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 1:         +69.0°C  (high = +87.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)

pkg-temp-0-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:        +73.0°C

Any clue?

Thanks a lot,
Condomitti.

Re: linux-rt: fan always on

Maybe it disables cpu scaling causing the fan to always kick in?

Did you ever have an rt kernel that did not have the fan spin up?

Re: linux-rt: fan always on

In case you have the latest version installed, I had big problems with it, ardour crashed etc. My fan also ran continuously. There's something wrong with this latest patch. Use an older version and try it again.

Re: linux-rt: fan always on

Hi Rexilion and sekret! Thanks for your reply.

I used RT kernels in the past and as far as I remember I hadn't that fan issue.

The difference is that in the past I built kernel manually and at this time I only makepkg PKGBUILD from AUR.

sekret, it's 3.12.12-rt19-1-rt, was that the version you were having the same problem?

Thanks guys!

Re: linux-rt: fan always on

That's exactly the version that causes these issues for me. I've downgraded to 3.12.11_rt17-1, but I'm not sure if this version causes problems, haven't tested yet, but I THINK it's ok. Just adjust the entries in PKGBUILD, update the md5sum with the updpkgsums command and rebuild it.
