Arch added in LDC

The Linux Distribution Chooser is a online test wich tries to find a suitable distribution for you. It has now Arch Linux included in it's answers.

I saw that.  Very cool.  However, I'm still not smart enough to run arch according to them.  I guess you need to be a linux EXPERT to run arch - A status I doubt I'll ever assign to myself.

The results depend too much on the choosen pkg management, beginners know nothing about it. Most of them do not know was a pkg or even a binary is.

None of the choices were Arch. First was SUSE I've used it, prefer Arch. It also listed mand~ dito.

of all distros i've tried, debian is the worst for good:bad ratio experiences.

I got Arch,Gentoo,Slack too, but on my second try. The first try didn't give me any matches at all. Guess I'll have to make my own distribution to find "my flavour"

What a weird test :?

It gave me Kubuntu as my perfect match, along with Suse (which I hate) and MEPIS... even Linspire (yuck yuck yuck) was above Arch Linux! Craziness!

One of the failings for Arch in the test was that it requires advanced knowledge, but I put myself as an experienced Linux user, and said that I could partition hard drives, was fairly advanced as far as my technical skills go, etc... I don't understand that. Also, I said I wanted easy access to ready-to-run applications, and apparently Arch failed on that count too. I love Arch for the applications! Whenever I need to do something that requires a piece of software that I do not have, I simply search for some relevant terms on pacman, then install anything that is returned that looks suitable. It always seems to be the latest version, and there is always something there to satisfy my needs. I never have problems with Arch Linux in that regard.

Oh well, I guess I will just have to give them some feedback in order to tell them as such!

I put advanced for Linux experience and it matched me up with Mandrake.  :shock:

I had to use Expert, Text based install for Arch

Same for me. The 2nd and 3rd distros were Kubuntu and Debian.   I'm not sure about how efficient this test is. Some questions were strangely asked or had awkward choice of answers. I also wonder what could be the difference betwen advanced and expert knowledge...  I take it with a grain of salt.

I can't believe I haven't tried it anyway, and maybe never, I like Arch so much, don't want to compile things all by myself with my duron machine.

Wow that test is so much longer than the one I made. I put myself as experienced for pretty much all the areas and experienced with linux, but there was no options for looking for a lightweight or speedy distribution and some of the questions didn't seem to be in plain english or have a huge impact(such as the difference between rpm and deb).
