Hi all,
yesterday I've installed Arch on a brand new ThinkPad T440p. Basically, everything seems to just work, except that the system doesn't shut down properly. When it shuts down, after unmounting filesystems it says:
ata6.00: status: { DRDY }
ata6.00: revalidation failed (errno=-5)and that's it. It won't turn off.
Here's what journalctl says:

Mär 14 07:35:21 thinkpad-t440p kernel: ata6.00: configured for UDMA/133As you can see, ata6.00 is a MATSHITA DVD-RAM drive which basically seems to work fine, at least I've run the Arch installation CD with it. The "revalidation failed" is not in the journal strangely, but maybe that's because that happens after the filesystems have already been unmounted...
Here in the forums, I've found several similar errors. Several solutions have been proposed:
1. Turn off Wake-on-LAN in the system setup: I've done that, but it doesn't change anything.
2. "ifconfig <ethernet-card> down" before shutdown: I've tried that, and then the "revalidation failed" errors didn't show up at shutdown, but still the system didn't poweroff.
Any ideas what might be the culprit? I'm happy to do any debugging and provide any additional information!
Bye,
Tassilo

I found a suggestion; append this to your kernel-line: irqpoll pci=nommconf source

Not needed. I've solved it by blacklisting the nouveau kernel driver. This laptop has an onboard intel graphics chip and a dedicated nvidia card (which I don't plan to use). Somehow, having both the intel and nouveau drivers loaded didn't work out so good on this computer. Actually, before the ata6.00 errors I've posted, there also was an nouveau error but I didn't think that this was the culprit. Seems I've been wrong.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway!
