[solved] CPU fan runs on maximum speed when system is started

Hello folks,

I just built my new system, i5-4670k on ASRock Z87 Extreme6.

As soon as Arch Linux is started, the cpu fan goes up to top speed for no reason. Temperatures are still below 30°C, threshold for the CPU fan set in UEFI is at 50°C.

It's just like the fan isn't controlled by UEFI anymore. I like to keep the fan management in UEFI, how can I get this working? Or first: What is the problem, actually?

Thanks,
Wolle

I don't use any parameter to control the fans, I usually let the M/B do the job. Still when I boot my system, there is always a period of time of like 5 seconds where the CPU fan goes top, and then it calms down.

M/B: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 CPU: AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor GPU: XFX R9 390 DD Black Edition RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 1866 2X4GB SSD: Crucial M4 128GB SATA 3
CPU and GPU are watercooled by Ibercool kit.

This happens with me for a couple of seconds on boot as well. I just assumed it was normal.

That is normal, yes. My fan does that, too. It's the time before any software sends control signals to the fan.

And it calms down after that, too. But as soon, as I boot into linux, it goes to max speed again and won't go down.

Are you running fancontrol as a daemon?

Everybody stop thinking about this. I was too blind to see... or, more... too deaf to hear, that it was the fan of my graphics card.

Obviously, dpm wasn't default-on for my card.
