Some of you fellow FVWM lovers might be happy to know that 2.5.15 is out:
Changes in beta release 2.5.15 (14-Jan-2006)
* New features:
* Variables can be nested, like $[desk.name$[desk.n]].
* Obsolete one-letter variables work, but generate warnings now.
* Windows can be placed by any button (now also >3).
* It is now possible to redefine the buttons usable to finish window movement and manual placement.
* New window condition PlacedByButton.
* MenuStyle pairs can be negated by prefixing '!'.
* New generic tabbing module - FvwmTabs.
* New Style option: EWMHIgnoreWindowType.
* New MenuStyle options: MouseWheel, ScrollOffPage and TrianglesUseFore.
* To compile from CVS, autoconf-2.53 or above is now required. This does not affect compiling the released tarballs.
* New option "screen" to Move and ResizeMove commands to allow specifying the target Xinerama screen.
* Bug Fixes:
* Supported a new fribidi version 0.10.5 in addition to 0.10.4.
* Better look for windows with "BorderStyle TiledPixmap".
* Some EWMH-related 64-bit fixes.
* Fixed segmentation fault when replacing title of title only menus (Bug #1121).
* Fixes for resizing of shaded windows and resizing/moving windows with complex functions.

Yeah, I think quite a few users have been looking forward to that.

I'm glad to see TrianglesUseFore for menus (which should be the default in my opinion). Other than a few things here or there, I won't be really excited by anything until fvwm3 comes out

Mayby I should play with fvwm some time. I think it is really cool.

My God. When I look at these pics, I want to use FVWM.

Glad to hear you are taking an interest in Fvwm. 8)
It's very powerful, indeed, and if you create your own configs it's definitely a lot of work, but you'll learn a great deal about how window managers work. If you don't want to create your own, that's okay too, as there are lots of good ready-to-go configs to be found on the fvwm forums:
...and of course, you can always customize the ready-to-go configs to suit your own tastes and needs.

Oh I always had interest in Fvwm, but I never had the guts. But now I want to try it.

Yes. At least, that's what I guess from the name.

You can get the config from the author's blog: blueblog.org

It's just FvwmButtons and probably some FvwmScripts as well.

One question. How stable is 2.5.x compared to 2.4.x or other WM's?
Arch - It's something refreshing
Offline
fvwm-devel (2.5.x) is pretty stable. I'm using it for several months without any issues. I think that the other Arch fvwm users use the devel version too as it has more features.
Offline
Myself I have had never problem with 2.5.14. There is no need to keep it in the unstable repo.

As of version 2.2, an odd second digit denotes development releases and even numbers denote stable releases, but I think most everyone here will advise you to go for 2.5 release over the 2.4 release.

what about the rounded corners of windows ? Do you know if it's included in this release or planned to be ?
Offline
No it is not included in this release as far as I know. I only expect rounded corners to be a feature when fvwm3 arrives.

I can't compile fvwm 2.5.15 because of X.org 7.0. I need theese libraries:
X11/X.h
X11/Xfuncproto.h
X11/Xosdefs.h
but I just can't find them anywhere.

They are in xproto.
BTW, fvwm 2.5.15 builds fine with xorg 6.8.x. I'll try it in a few moments.
EDIT: the sed line isn't needed anymore.

That could take some time as neri is relatively busy. Here's an updated PKGBUILD:
pkgname=fvwm-devel
pkgver=2.5.15
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="A multiple large virtual desktop window manager originally derived from twm"
url="http://www.fvwm.org"
depends=('imlib' 'fribidi' 'perl' 'x-server' 'libstroke' 'perl-tk' 'perl-x11-protocol')
source=(ftp://ftp.fvwm.org/pub/fvwm/version-2/fvwm-$pkgver.tar.bz2
$pkgname.desktop)
md5sums=('b56fc10535968ab8c059854c9c07c311' '3f5bcb246e035ff29aa5bf54487a3db4')
build() {
cd $startdir/src/fvwm-$pkgver
./configure --prefix=/usr
--sysconfdir=/etc
--libexecdir=/usr/lib
--with-xft-prefix=/usr/X11R6
--with-fontconfig=/usr
--with-stroke
make || return 1
make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
mkdir -p $startdir/pkg/etc/fvwm
cp sample.fvwmrc/* $startdir/pkg/etc/fvwm
rm -f $startdir/pkg/etc/fvwm/{Makefile,Makefile.am,Makefile.in}
install -Dm 644 ../$pkgname.desktop
$startdir/pkg/etc/X11/sessions/$pkgname.desktop
}
It needs perl-x11-protocol that I uploaded to AUR and fvwm.desktop from abs. It's for xorg in current. Users of Xorg 7 in testing will need to change the --with-xft-prefix configure option and maybe the depends. The new MenuStyle options are nice. Didn't tried FvwmTabs yet.
Enjoy!

Don't y'all forget my CVS pkg in [dibble] it's not very up to date ATM but it's a good way of staying up to date with the latest changes Building it yourself with versionpkg is dead easy too
