Hi there,
i have the problem that for a project i work on i need gcc 4.8, which is there on arch, yay, but for some other project, i need gcc 4.7, because it is a closed source game engine that comes with c++ headers that fail to compile on gcc 4.8.
Is there anything like update-alternatives on debian for arch, to install multiple gcc versions and then switch between them?
Thanks

Multiple version «are not supported» by arch (yesss... look libpng12 for example is on repos....)
BUT, you can install aur/gcc47 from AUR I thing that can help, but you need to set you gcc variables to point that gcc 47 and they path install

You should contact the author of that closed source game engine and get them to update their code so that it works with gcc 4.8 and 4.9

The Haiku operating system has two versions of GCC installed, one is version 2 and one version 4, so it is possible. There's a script (or something) that is used to switch between the two environments.

Especially if it's something you paid for. ![]()
