xdm-archlinux not wanting to come up everytime

Seems like the last two recent kernel updates have done this.  This is on a machine that hasn't had to add anything to the /etc/mkinitcpio.conf such as i915, intelagp, or drm_kms_helper.  I can

 systemctl restart xdm-archlinux

with no change.  Of course this is a tablet that usually doesn't have a physical keyboard attached to it, so I have to use xdm to bring up xvkbd so I can login and then from there use the virtual keyboard in my de/wm, which awesome works well as long as I can point the focus.  I would use slim if I could get it to call xvkbd, but I haven't been able to get that to work.  So I don't know why xdm is blanking out on me all of a sudden.  If I login remotely, and do a startx, then it goes into the de/wm without any problem making me think it is an intermittent problem with xdm all of a sudden.

Re: xdm-archlinux not wanting to come up everytime

I seem to have these messages in dmesg:

[drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
[drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace.
[drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue.
[drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it.

Re: xdm-archlinux not wanting to come up everytime

It seems to have mysteriously cleared up since kernel and/or xf86 updates.
