I don't see any change in SLIM, .xinitrc nor slim.conf, so, I blame one or more of the packages above, but, which one?
I don't see any valuable information in slim.log just "slim: waiting for X server to begin accepting connections." and I don't know more files or logs to look at before downgrading them all one by one.
What can I do?

SLiM logs to the systemd journal - use journalctl -b to see if anything interesting is logged there. Also see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Journalctl#Journal
Also be sure nothing happened to your ~/.xinitrc - pacman wouldn't touch it, but maybe something to a file that is sourced from your xinitrc.

This is the 'journalctl -b' output after trying to login to MATE:

Nevertheless in Openbox it all works fine.
My .xinitrc is like it was before the update:
#!/bin/sh
#
# ~/.xinitrc
#
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
#if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
# for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
# [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
# done
# unset f
#fi
# exec gnome-session
# exec startkde
# exec startxfce4
# exec mate-session
# ...or the Window Manager of your choice
exec $1
xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
export GTK2_RC_FILES="$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0"
I've tried to comment "exect $1" and uncomment "exec mate-session" in order to start MATE with "startx", I've commented the two last lines, etc, etc... but nothing changed.
In https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Jo … emd_errors the first thing to do is "systemctl --state=failed" and this is the output:
[josealb77@ArchLinux ~]$ systemctl --state=failed
0 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too.
To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.
No services failed to start.
What more can I try?

I confirm this. same combo: Mate + Slim, Fluxbox works without problem.
My .xinitrc:
#!/bin/sh
#
# ~/.xinitrc
#
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
[ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
done
unset f
fi
xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources
exec mate-session
And my Xorg.0.log:
I can start Fluxbox from Slim or with startx. Mate doesn't start with any of those.
I have a nettop Atom 1.6 ghz with a Intel 945 GME, running Arch 32 bits.

@josealb77: Please wait whilst the mate-power-manager package is rebuilt against the new version of upower. See the bottom half of this page.
Claire is fine.
Problems? I have dysgraphia, so clear and concise please.
