Pacman update error through proxy

I have set proxy through environment variable. I have also set sudo to accept proxy in the sudoers file using visudo. Now I'm getting a totally new kind of error message(I've gotten lots of error messages thanks to proxy settings):

Error parsing proxy URL 'http://username:passwordl@hproxy.iitm.ac.in:3128': Scheme missing
(I've replaces my actual username and password)
What does this mean?
