If this gets demoted to the AUR, it shouldn't be that hard to look after a package for it though.

I lack the programming skills (and time) to do anything like that unfortunately. Hopefully someone will continue its development though, rather than just "look after" it

Actually, this happens with all kinds of open source projects, all the time, it's the nature of the beast. Singling out file managers just because you can think of two is a bit pointless.

dennis123123, given your chronic lack of time and skill, I'd suggest you contact the current maintainer of the spacefm package to see whether he intends to continue with it.

I think that's an incredibly rude attitude to have. Nobody was "singling out" file managers -- I started this topic as I just learnt from the SpaceFM website that it has been abandoned in the past couple of weeks, and others/ a potential person who might want to take over development may not have seen it yet.

and "chronic lack of time and skill"... so what, because I have a full time job and am not an uber-leet programmer then automatically I'm some kind of "burden" on this community?

I've given up on attempting to contact people directly for OSS - I've found at least 10 issues in seperate pieces of open source software in the past week. Only 1 developer was courteous enough to email me back with a fix, 2 emailed with a "that wont affect many people so I dont care" type response, and the rest - nothing.

My first remarks were addressed to chaonaut, not you dennis, in response to his observation that this seems to happen "with any proper open source file manager." He did not mention any other application categories, so he was in fact singling out file managers.

I did not suggest you were a burden of any sort, but I have struck out the word that seems to bother you anyway.

Just to clarify, I was talking about contacting the TU who packages SpaceFM for Arch's community repo, but if you believe he won't respond, then don't bother.

Good luck with your future choice of file manager.

But of a shock indeed, but I certainly won't hold it against IgnorantGuru who has contributed hugely with SpaceFM and Udevil.
I think a bit of a hiatus was coming anyway for SpaceFM with the GTK2 versus GTK3 situation (read IG's previous blog posts). Between a rock and a hard place with that choice, and if you were starting with a blank sheet, would you choose Qt instead now?

Guys, if you read the post carefully, he mentioned that he might fix major bugs if the need arises. So, no need to raise an alarm right now.

By the way, for someone looking for an interesting GUI file manager, you might want to give donnatella a try.

PS: I haven't used either spacefm or donnatella, so I don't know how they compare. But donnatella looks very interesting to me.

I'm not going to drop SpaceFM anytime soon from [community]. Most likely I'll switch it back to GTK2 to avoid any compatibility issues.

looks like it is still being developed, I did a system update a few days ago and spacefm was updated - the gui certainly looks different.

(I realise that this isn't a support thread, but bumping a topic about software being abandoned just to say it hasn't been abandoned isn't necessary. People with spacefm installed will get the update, and people without spacefm will still be able to install it from the repos. If the wiki page needs updating, however, feel free to do so.)
