Lost keyboard settings

Hi,
I ran some locale command to set keyboard mapping to mac-us with the hope of getting my '`' key to work, and now the keyboard is typing all wierd characters. I tried rebooting with no luck. How do I restore my keyboard settings. I cannot even login, because i cannot find the correct characters to spell out my login id and password.

Re: Lost keyboard settings

Chroot in and fix your locale.

Re: Lost keyboard settings

I cannot chroot. After I boot, I get the login prompt, and thats it, whatever I type there appears gibberish already. for e.g. my id is mt, it appears as `3
I tried logging in single user mode. At this point it appears stuck asking me to enter root password, which obviously it cannot read, since my keyboard is now remapped. 'j' appears to be the enter key.

Are you booting from a live medium? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Chroot

Re: Lost keyboard settings

Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah that looks like its the last alternative. I don't have the USB handy right now.
Btw, once I get that, then I can chroot, and then what do I do next? Mount partition, and run localectl to set locale?

Also, what should I set it to support the macbook keyboard layout? I tried us. That prints '>' and '<' for my tilda and accent keys.

Re: Lost keyboard settings

Yes, once the chroot is set up, just follow the wiki locale page.

I can't offer any advice re macbooks, but this page may help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Apple_Keyboard
