Re: Openoffice2 Hell [Solved]

I'm having the same problems as well and haven't been able to resolve it yet. I haven't had much time to put toward it, but you're definitely not alone. Out of curiosity, are you using the nVIDIA drivers? If so, did you comment out the DRI section in your
xorg.conf
file?

Re: Openoffice2 Hell [Solved]

OO2 giving no problems here using nvidia with DRI disabled. Can you run it from a terminal to see if you get any errors? Probably none, but it's worth trying.

Re: Openoffice2 Hell [Solved]

Is the proper command just
soffice
? I tried that, and it loaded up, but as soon as I tried to open a file, it crashed (this time with a dialog box stating it encountered an unexpected error...first time it did that) and then it froze. Had to kill soffice.bin to get rid of it...no console error messages.

Re: Openoffice2 Hell [Solved]

Can you ensure that sun jre 1.5 is installed first and then rename the OO dot directory under $HOME as see if that works.

Re: Openoffice2 Hell [Solved]

Hey elasticdog I think i might have a solution. OO works perfectly now thanks in part to basilburn. I decided to give his last post a try so i displayed hidden files to locate the .openoffice file. Then i realised that the owner and group was both root. I suppose the first time i run it as root i was in my home directory.

Anyway i deleted it and reinstalled j2re just incase. Then this time i went to roots directory and run soffice. The usual screen got displayed and i accepted the licence.

Then i started the program as myself in my home directory. The same licence screen showed up and i did the same and that's it. OO opens, closes and sumersaults without problems big_smile .

I hope it fixes yours. Let me know if it works it will help me sleep better. lol

Re: Openoffice2 Hell [Solved]

Awesome...I'll give that a shot when I get home tonight. That would make sense. I think I ran it through
sudo
the first time and was probably just sitting in my normal user home directory. Thanks for the update!

Re: Openoffice2 Hell [Solved]

Yep, the owner/group permissions were messed up. The installation instructions might need to be updated, since I would assume they are set by whomever runs
soffice
the first time, which it says should be the root user. Either that, or you and I are in a weird minority.

All I did to fix it was remove the
~/.openoffice.org2/
directory using
sudo
and then ran
soffice
as my normal user which re-created the directory with the correct permissions after I accepted the license agreement.

Thanks for the help!

Could you add a [solved] tag to the title of this thread?
