I have a base Arch install on a Chromebook - mostly working great. Both "pm-suspend" and "systemctl suspend" work fine from a command or key binding. However, they do not work on LID close, even though I have the right code in /etc/acpi/handler.sh. Also, I have acpi and acpid working, apparently fine. I want to test if the LID event actually happens or not, and am unsure how to do that.
Any others out there ever had same problem or other ideas?

# Do we ignore the lid state
#
# Some laptops are broken. The lid state is either inverted, or stuck
# on or off. We can't do much to fix these problems, but this is a way
# for users to make the laptop panel vanish and for programs like
# gnome-settings-daemon to not suspend on system startup.

# default=false
IgnoreLid=true
But, I think upower is deprecated in favour of systemd...
As for testing your lid event: use a udev rule
