I have a Brother HL-1430. It worked flawlessly in the past. I recently re-installed Arch. I set the printer up as recommended in the wiki. When I try to print, the data LED is flashing (like it always does shortly before the printing actually starts) and afterwards nothing happens. When i go to http://localhost:631, the printer status says 'Idle - "Rendering completed"'. The job's state is "completed".
I found this entry in the wiki and checked the GIDs of etc/cups, /var/log/cups, and /var/spool/cups. They are all set to "lp".
The Group and SystemGroup directives in /etc/cups/cups-files.conf looks like that:
...
# Default user and group for filters/backends/helper programs; this cannot be
# any user or group that resolves to ID 0 for security reasons...
#User daemon
Group lp
# Administrator user group, used to match @SYSTEM in cupsd.conf policy rules...
SystemGroup sys root
...

Finally I got it to work.
All the drivers installed via the foomatic or the gutenprint packages didn't work. Even the drivers explicitly named after my printer, a HL-1430, didn't work. Shortly before giving up I went to https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Br … er-HL-1430, clicked on the recommended hl1250 driver and generated a PPD file for my printer. Within the CUPS web interface I added this PPD file manually and the printer now works flawlessly (again). In case anyone is interested: the working driver is called 'Brother HL-1430 Foomatic/hl1250 (recommended)'.
Not sure where to file a bug now, though.
