All files detected as octet/stream on nemo

Hi, i have a problem recently (2 days ago), all files were detected as Binary (application/octet-stream) in nemo/evince. For details, see this link: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … am-in-nemo

all .pdf file cannot be opened by evince, even when using command line:

$ file bla.pdf
bla.pdf: PDF document, version 1.4
$ evince bla.pdf

the result was:

Unable to open document “file:///tmp/bla.pdf”.
File type application/octet-stream type (application/octet-stream) is not supported

Another example:

$ file bla.mkv
bla.mkv: Matroska data

but when right clicked on nemo > properties, it's shown as

ExfF6.png

What's the possible causation of this? Is there any package that I should re-install?

Info
- I'm using 64-bit ArchLinux.
- The ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list exists
- Installing gnome-defaults-list doesn't fix the problem.

Did you try opening the pdf using something other than evince? What about opening other files such as the mkv or any other file, through the command line?

Great!

i have no other pdf viewer other than evince..

then install one...

Give epdfview a try. If even that doesn't work, give mupdf a try.

I guess you should open a bug report with nemo (upstream).
