Steam - OpenGL not using direct rendering

Hello.

I have a problem with Steam, I get the error from the title when I run it. I can use the client itself, but I can't run any games.

I have installed both xf86-video-ati and lib32-ati-dri. I have also installed lib32-mesa-demos.

Output of glxinfo32 | grep OpenGL:

I'm using open source drivers for my Radeon HD 7850. Arch is freshly installed yesterday, running 3.15.3-1-ARCH kernel. I'm using i3 window manager.

I should also note that running Steam used to crash X before I replaced official glamor-egl with glamor-egl-git from AUR. This problem is also described in the above linked article.

Another thing... I've had both of these problems on Manjaro Linux as well, before I switched to Arch. That was on 3.10 kernel.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Edit: I forgot to mention that overall performance of Steam client really sucks. Everything is extremely laggy and locks up often, for example when I try to change the category of a game. I can't shut it down even by killing its process.

I tried install steam on my 32-bit arch with ATI Radeon HD 6250 and got the same error on starting steam.

From that line I guess the problem is the gcc version.
Btw, I can not downgrade to test it. What are your output?
BTW is just a guess of mine, i am a noob here.

It seems that we have similar problems. My gcc is 4.9.0 and Steam apparently requires 4.7.0?

Edit: I have downloaded version 4.7.0-6 from here. I will attempt to build it with makepkg tomorrow and see if that helps.

Edit 2: I tried building it with makepkg and it fails to download tar.gz of 4.7.0 while installing.

You guys don't have to downgrade the library. Just use this command to launch Steam, found from a thread about a similar problem:

DRI_PRIME=1 LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/lib32/libstdc++.so.6 /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 /usr/lib32/libgcc_s.so.1" ~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/run.sh steam

There's still a bunch of errors in the terminal, but at least it's a workaround until Valve fixes their client.

For me worked too, just not needed the /usr/lib32 entries, because i am running on my 32 bit laptop. Thanks for the info!
