i get this when starting newest amule and then after this message amule doesn't start...

amule works fine for me.
Do you have the ports necessary for amule opened ?
Another possibility :
check your /etc/hosts file for a line like this :
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost julius
Some programs need to have 127.0.0.1 linked to the name you give your pc in rc.conf, mine is called julius.

that did it: i just put my hostname to the end of the line - this shouldn't hurt anything other shouldn't it?

X gave an error 'unknown host' until i added this, so i think it's safe to assume it doesn't hurt anything.
