[SOLVED] libflashplayer.so crashes on some videos

I downloaded the 64 bit version of libflashplayer.so from adobes site and copied it to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /usr/lib/chromium/plugins

In firefox...  It works some of the time.  I can watch most youtube videos.  However, on occasion one will crash.  Dmesg shows...

[26835.127489] plugin-containe[3024]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f5cdc7e6f9e sp 00007f5cd31fc6a0 error 4 in libflashplayer.so[7f5cdbfda000+117e000]

In chromium...  It also works most of the time.  However, some sites will display the "you need adobe flash to view this site" message.

Is there an additional plugin I need?  Thanks.

Why not use the one from the repos?

Is there any reason for you not to use the official package?

Also, what is your video card? It looks like some of them might cause problems.

Re: [SOLVED] libflashplayer.so crashes on some videos

With Chromium....

When I used the official package, chromium didn't work.  I kept on getting the "you need to install flash plugin for this to work" message on several pages (not all pages, but quite a few).  That's when I removed the official package and tried the libflashplayer.so plugin from the adobe site and put it in /usr/lib/chromium/plugins.  That did not work either.  I am using an Nvidia card (GTX 750)so I uncommented the EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1 from /etc/adobe/mms.cfg and tried the official package and THEN tried the abobe libflashplayer.so with that line uncommented.  Chromium still gave me the "you need to install flash plugin for this to work" message on several pages in both cases.

With Firefox...

Firefox works perfectly using the official package as long as EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1 is uncommented.  The segfault only happened when I used the adobe libflashplayer.so, which I won't use anymore.

So basically it looks like chromium is the problem.  How do I get this to work with Chromium (version 35.0.1916.153 (274914)) using the official package?

The Arch wiki explains this for Chromium.  You will need Pepper Flash plugin.

This will also give you a much more up to date version because Adobe stopped updating the NAPI plugin.  Unfortunately, Firefox isn't compatible with Pepper plugins so I've mostly switched over to Chrome because of the websites that, unfortunately, still use Flash.  The old NAPI plugin was quite buggy and won't work with websites that require a newer version.
