[SOLVED] "The kernel may be using the old partition table"

I'm trying to format partition my HDD for Arch but I continue getting the above error.

I have tried rebooting several times but with no avail.

      1007.0 KiB free space
1. 25.0 GiB Linux Filesystem /
2. 124.0 GiB Linux /home /home

I'm not sure what to do. I haven't found anything that shows what to do in this situation.

Re: [SOLVED] "The kernel may be using the old partition table"

Exactly where are you in the installation processes?  Why are you rebooting after partitioning and before installing? (Trick question, you are not, if you were you would not get any message).

Re: [SOLVED] "The kernel may be using the old partition table"

@Trillby

I assumed partitioning was part of the installation process. Should this be moved to NC?

In any case, I'm trying to partition so that I can install Arch. I've installed plenty of times before, but this is the first I've come across this error.

I gather this is the first time you've seen the error - that's why you are asking.  But we can't help you unless you give us the context.

Re: [SOLVED] "The kernel may be using the old partition table"

I'm not sure what's out of context.

I booted up the install CD. The first thing I went to do is use

cgdisk /dev/sda1

to partition my HDD so that I can install Arch.

When I went to write the changes, I got the error

The kernel may be using the old partition table. Reboot to use the new partition table!

Re: [SOLVED] "The kernel may be using the old partition table"

Everything was out of context as you hadn't provided *any* context.  Now that you have, the error is clear: you are trying to partition a partition.  You should run cgdisk on the device:

cgdisk /dev/sda

Re: [SOLVED] "The kernel may be using the old partition table"

Ah. Sorry. I suppose I need to work on my communication skills.

In any case, running that command returns

Could not load partitions from '/dev/sda'! Aborting!

Input:

cgdisk /dev/sda

Output:

Could not load partitions from '/dev/sda'! Aborting!

I don't see what you're getting at.

Eh ... I'm getting at the fact that you are editting your posts to change what you are presenting and misrepresent the history of this dialog.

Gee, I guess you made me look foolish, huh.  Good luck - you're on your own.

Re: [SOLVED] "The kernel may be using the old partition table"

Yes, I edited my above post because I forgot to include the '/' in the quote, but I did not forget to include it in the command.

In any case, I've fixed it. I made the entire disk ext4 then ran sgdisk and partitioned afterwards. It works fine now.
