You have done nothing wrong, it's just that these applications are not yet ready, I use kf5 and dolphin, konsole, kwrite and gwenview from KDE 4.
Hi thanks for your input,
Hugh

No, this will not reinstall the entire kdebase group. Use pacman -S kdebase or pacman -S kde-meta-kdebase

You will need to reinstall almost all kde applications since most of them are still not ported to KF5 and thus not installed with plasma-next/kf5 packages. BTW, installing them will also pull back some KDE4 libraries.

For those who wants to try KF5 applications, your could try this repo:
[kf5-apps]
SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
Server = http://cupoflinux.com/Repository/anex/kde5-apps/$arch

I have installed some applications from that respository and all is fine. I see that dolphin is compiled without baloo-widgets-git (good for me, I had just installed dolphin-frameworks-git from AUR disabling baloo-widgets-git)
Digikam will not start (package in this repository and package compiled from AUR) for problems about gstreamer (take a look at https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/digi … orks-git/) .
It would be very nice to fix this. Maybe disable video support in digikam waiting for a fix?

Hey, I just installed plasma-next: everything seems to be fine, except the workspace doesn't appear... krunner and everything else work, so it's not that big a deal, but instead of the desktop there's just a transparent window called "Desktop - Plasma", belonging to plasmashell.
When I restart it in a console, it seems a qml file fails to load, claiming that "module org.kde.plasma.shell is not installed".
I can't find a single referesnce to org.kde.plasma.shell on google. Anyone knows what's up ?
EDIT: commenting the import line and the only reference to org.kde.plasma.shell in the qml file somewhat works (the workspace still appears in windowed mode, there's no panel configured, and it's not possible to add one).

Have you used sddm? Try to create a new user account to use empty configuration and log in through sddm. If this will work, rename or move out ~/.local and ~/.kde4 and try to login under your user.
Here's the list of my installed KF5 apps packages http://jpst.it/vNAg

@mallrat thanks for the repo. But why sddm-git tries to override sddm? I'm asked everytime if i want to replace sddm with sddm-git.
Offline
I'm not sure why this is done. I'm not the repo maintainer. I got it from Manjaro Plasma 5 Dev ISO discussion. I'm not care about sddm, it just logs me in and the git version works.
You can ask the question here: https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=18150.0

Oh ok, i thought you were the maintainer

@nierro: sddm and sddm-git ship the same files (same program, different versions) so they cannot coexist. This is why -git packages conflict with non-git ones.
Offline
Yes, but indeed -git version tries to replace normal version, without me asking for it. The same doesn't occur with eg plasma-workspace-git or every other package in the repo, so it is weird.
Everytime i perform an update, sddm-git asks me to replace sddm...

Edit: sorry, wrong post.

That's because the sddm-git has a replaces=('sddm') line, not just a conflicts= one. That's wrong, git packages should never try to replace stable ones.

I am trying to add some service menus to dolphin-frameworks (a simplified kim4 is already working)
Plasma global service menu directory is now "/usr/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/"
What directory should I use if I want to put some service menus in home directory? (In KDE4 was "/home/user/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/")

Try ~/.local/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/

Trying out plasma-next since today. I am a bit disappointed because it feels very sluggish. In KDE4 i could switch the QT graphic system to raster which gave me quite smooth animations. This seems to miss now. I only have the choice between GLX and EGL.
But switching between them doesn't improve performance at all.
Anyone else experiences this too?

I've tried it (5.1) and it actually runs very smooth on my old desktop (ATI4850 on open drivers). I still have some graphic glitches and the occasional crashes (it doesn't like much running fullscreen Steam games and switching between applications at the same time). Also, I've not tried multi-monitor. But so far so good for me. Also MUCH faster in startup, which was an aspect on which KDE was destroyed by other DEs (it's still slow, but not lethargic).

The Plasma team has placed more emphasis on opengl due to the transition to qt quick/qml. There is still an Xrender backend available but if your system doesn't support at least opengl 2.0 the animations will be a bit sluggish

Hi everyone.
First a big thanks to arojas for the repo you had set up with 14.11.97 apps
My first question here on the forum; (hope this is the right thread to post this in)
Widgets - add new - install new widgets - it seems like it shows everything in kde-look.org?
It was ok until a couple of days ago. Now when I try to download new plasma widgets (plasmoids) it shows wallpapers - colorschemes yes everything from kde-look shows in the list.
So my question is if anyone else is experiencing this or if I'm the only one ( then I've obviously done something wrong)
I know there's not many plasmoids (widgets) there yet but it shouldn't show everything it's showing now at least
I'm using testing repo and everything has been very smooth for me for almost 2 months now this is the first "problem" I've encountered
Too old to know better
Still too young to care
Offline
I have the same. A little bug. Not so important, since there are very few plasmoids to download...
Offline
Today I have switched to the plasma next. Probably the most important problem isn't too important to be a show stopper
The problem is: I use Thunderbird (as far as KMail2 still isn't usable at my case), and Thunderbird's extension used for system tray isn't compatible with new notification way. On the other hand it is rather critical to have indicator on the desktop panel showing incoming messages count.
Has anybody a workaround?
"I exist" is the best myth I know..
