Thanks for the answer
Now I now I haven't screwed something up as I'm not the only one experiencing this.
That was all I was wondering about
Too old to know better
Still too young to care

Today I have switched to the plasma next. Probably the most important problem isn't too important to be a show stopper
The problem is: I use Thunderbird (as far as KMail2 still isn't usable at my case), and Thunderbird's extension used for system tray isn't compatible with new notification way. On the other hand it is rather critical to have indicator on the desktop panel showing incoming messages count.
Has anybody a workaround?
The only solution that works in all cases so far is to use a sandalone tray or completely replace plasma panel with something else.

Hi folks!
I set proxy settings in system settings but Chromium not use them and if I press proxy settings button in chromium settings this doesn't work (not open settings dialog or error-page)...

As pointed out before in this thread you could install trayer and autostart it with:
trayer --edge bottom --widthtype request --align right --distance 40 &

Xabre, hifi25nl,
Thanks for the suggestions! Have played with stalonetray and trayer, still haven't found the way, but will try further.
As for standalone panel - which one can you recommend known to work smoothly with plasma desktop? I use vertical panel.
"I exist" is the best myth I know..

Now I have a full Plasma Next desktop without kdelibs or kdebase-runtime.
How can I use breeze for qt4 applications without installing the available packages depending on kdelibs?
I have tried to copy breeze.so to /usr/lib/qt4/plugins/styles/ but breeze is not showing in qtconfig-qt4

You can use the old qtcurve-based style:

Try firetray 0.5.4 (available in aur: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/thun … firetray/). Version 0.5.4 already contains appindicators support that enables the tray icon in KF5.
BTW, I got a problem, Thunderbird hangs sometimes, but maybe it's my local problem. Disabling firetray fixes the issue.
Also there are qt and gtk libraries supported appindicators:
sni-qt provides appindicators support for QT applications
libappindicator-gtk[23] provides appindicators support for GTK applications.
I have installed all lib32-libappindicator, lib32-sni-qt, libappindicator-gtk[23], sni-qt. So I got tray icons working for Goldendict, Telegram, Chrome(+Hangouts) and Skype (lib32-sni-qt is needed for Skype).

I have installed lib32-libappindicator, lib32-sni-qt, libappindicator-gtk[23], sni-qt and now I can see system tray icon. However not skype.
I have installed lib32-sni-qt but I change lib32-qt-ubuntu to lib32-qt. Do I need lib32-qt-ubuntu? I would not like to install it.

You can open a bug report requesting that the ubuntu patch, which is already applied to the [extra] qt4 package, is applied also to the lib32-qt4 package in [multilib]

Can someone explain to me, if installing kf5, kf5-aids and plasma-next is the same as installing meta packages (kde4) or more like installing a group of package? I am curious if i can just upgrade my system and get all the new 5.2 packages when they are released end of this month.

No. kde4 meta "package" brings all neccessary libraries for KDE4, all desktop environment and all apps developed by KDE Team.
KF5 and KF5-aids is similar to kde4's libraries, Plasma 5 is our DE now. There aren't so many KDE Applications build against of KF5 (only 5 if I remember) is now in KDE Applications 14.12.x. We expect more of them in 15.04. Personally I'm user of git apps and many of them are build on KF5.

Anyone else experiencing a problem with usb sound / usb headsets in plasma5 since the kf 5.6.0/plasma 5.1.2 release? Actually, sound devices don't show properly anymore, I just happen to have sound on my laptop because the default option seems to be fine .
Alsa and KMix perfeclty fine can find the headset, but the audio configuration in KDE can't, so I can't configure it as primary device.
Any suggestions? I tried installing pulseaudio, and even pulse can find the headset - still the audio configuration won't.

Since i was (and still am) playing around with Plasma 5 a little bit, i would like to share my "tweaks" to make GTK2/3 and KDE4 play nicely with the Plasma 5 enviroment:
GTK2/3: It is not perfect, but Orion looks quite nice with the Breeze theme enabled. (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=148527)
KDE4/QT4 apps like clementine etc.: breeze-kde4 + qt4 (qtconfig-qt4)
Libreoffice: It looks quite strange with the standard settings. However there is an easy fix. Best way is to put a little script into ".config/plasma-workspace/env/":
#!/bin/sh
export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP="kde4"
More tweaks are welcomed

PS: the dbus bug was fixed with plasma-workspace 5.1.2-4 (at least that's what the bug-report says)
UPDATE: When using the breeze-kde4 + qt4 combination, the colours will not be applied correctly within those qt4-applications (such as e.g. clementine). But i found the following fix:
There still is a .kde4 directory inside the user directory (probably created by the breeze-kde4 package, because there is only a color-scheme folder inside). But qt4 apps need the .kde folder, so here is the easy fix:
mkdir ~/.kde/share/config
cp ~/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals ~/.kde/share/config/
After this, clementine (and probably other qt4 apps) will use the right color-scheme + icon-theme.
Now there is only one thing missing: The icons on the window-bar do not look like the applied icon theme. Any ideas?

Hello,
I tried again to use kde5, 3 months after my first attempt, and same bug.
No one has find a solution/fix for the crash when logged in from sddm?

I never had it.

I have several strange issues with resolution and kwin on KF5 on MacBook Pro 11.x with Retina display.
I've uninstalled kdebase-workspace and installed kf5, kf5-aids and plasma-next. Because there was no way to change resolution tried installing aur/kscreen-frameworks, but it was showing the right one (even though it doesn't look that way).
As you can see from the screenshot below:
- Plasma Fonts are pixelated even after trying to fix their size while these in qt are fine
- Window decorations are not showed properly, even after `kwin_x11 --replace`. Even when partially visible buttons are not responding and the windows can't be moved from there (I was able to move them with alt+click over the windows, though). On double click,, maximization was working, but windows were getting "maximized" only in the top-left part of the screen
- Menu and other plasma boxes (like the notifications showed on the screenshot) are opening in the top-left part of the screen (where windows were "maximizing")
- The screen was flickering once every several seconds even when I stopped desktop effects
Everything else I was able to test was working properly.
Ideas how to fix all that?
P.S.: I tried this on a brand new user (i.e. without any dotfiles) and everything is working just perfect on KDE 4 (i.e. not a driver issue or something)
