Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hello,

for the past few months, whenever Plasma gets an upgrade, I cannot easily reboot/logout anymore.
I think clicking on the button does work, but it takes like 5 minutes or more to have an effect, so I usually just restart from the terminal which is not clean.

qdbus org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer logout 0 0 0

times out or cannot find the path, so not helpful.

After the reboot it's fine, but only till the next upgrade....
What can I do to fix this?

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hi!

I have trouble with on one of my comps, where is old installation of Arch. After standard upgrade:

systemctl isolate multi-user.target
systemctl disable kdm
pacman -Rc kdebase-workspace
pacman -S plasma
pacman -S breeze-kde4
systemctl enable sddm

comp can't poweroff or reboot from plasma - it return to the login screen. There is some not deinstalled from plasma 4, I think, but can't find what.
Where to see?

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hi there,

I wonder if someone has a similar problem. I run a rather fresh install (this weekend), kernel 4.4.3-1, plasma 5.5.5. When I installed plasma I had impression it takes too long compared with initial start. So I took a peek at journalctl -e . And what I saw the system was to some extend busy generating some core dumps. Usually kactivitymanage and kalarm crash, sometimes other processes, too. The DE runs ok, and you don't see anything suspicious but I suppose those crashes shouldn't happen. Any idea how to resolve this ?

cheers,
Pawel

EDIT:
I've found this which may be really helpful:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348194
I've added the shutdown script and the crashes are gone. Also there is no more problem with with shutdown when using sddm (at least for now). Before there was some strange 90s job wait upon shutdown... Seems like a QT bug which is already known...

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hi,
I have a flickering monitor from bottom screen to mouse cursor (plasma 5.5.5)
The problem appears randomly while I'm using the computer. Sometimes I can solve the issue doing some random desktop animation. Other times I need to reboot my laptop.

I report my Xorg.0.log:

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Here's a graphical bug I've been having on my system for some time. It appears from time to time, I don't know how to trigger it honestly.
I'm running arch on HP 250 G4 laptop with intel i5 5200u and AMD Radeon R5 M330 card.

I've been mostly able to reproduce the bug by switching around workspaces.

Have you raised a ticket for this? If so, can you post the link to it?
I think that I have managed to break it without having to switch the workspaces on my bumblebe setup (intel + nvidia).

I didn't. I am not sure what the problem was, but after installing xf86-video-intel it seems to have fixed my problems.

Still, I don't have enough courage to try messing around with ATI graphic card (using my integrated one atm) until I read enough docs and have enough time big_smile

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I just upgraded to Plasma 5.6 a few minutes ago and I'm having trouble with Kwallet not opening my wallet and prompting me for my password. It never accepts my password (the password is correct).

Any thoughts?

I hadn't, but I just did and there doesn't seem to be any change.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Upgrade to Plasma 5.6/frameworks 5.20:
- the widget "show desktop" is broken; if this widget is added to my main control panel, all other widgets with the exception of the start menu are invisible and not clickable; the calender always opens, Edit: seems to be known issue: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360120
- my desktop theme is broken; i had "breeze" with two exceptions: "transcluent background" and "control panel background" were set to "air". I also exported my theme and saved it with an own name. whereas the control panel background is still working, the symbol background isn't transparent anymore. Even with theme air it's not transparent anymore. So maybe the is a problem with the theme "air" in plasma 5.6.
Unfortunately the theme editor was removed :-( very bad decision
But the dropbox systray is now fine: no black, pink or gray background anymore :-)

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Theme editor removed? Why would they do that, that was the last non-hacky option to have a transparent panel/application menu with Breeze >_<

Anyone else having issues with the launcher (default) panel not auto-hiding after the update to 5.6?

no, in fact it's the only one, which autohides automatically, all other panels need a "mouse touch"

I decided, after reading your reply to me, to try adding a second panel and seeing if I could get THAT one to auto-hide. It (also) wouldn't auto-hide, but did make the original panel work properly. After a reboot or three, I deleted the second panel and the original seems to continue to work properly. Go figure...

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Some nice work in this update; performance has noticeably improved for me in several areas, and the work on visuals and enhancements to the task manager are welcome.

Alas, some new (to me) bugs along for the ride:

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

In plasma 5.6 it seems for my system that the option to have a blinking cursor for the launch of custom programs such as google-chrome or customised versions of thunderbird when launched from the kicker or from icons placed on the panel the icon doesn't blink but just shows a static icon now until the program starts.  Is this observed by anyone else? ( set as per Settings -> Applications -> Launch feedback - change to "blinking cursor")

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

The new Qt version is causing problems for Qt Designer.

QMetaProperty::read: Unable to handle unregistered datatype 'ActionTypes' for property 'KShortcutsEditor::actionTypes'
Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x50501) with this library (version 0x50600)

Seems like there are still some plugins for Qt 5.5.1 which can not be combined with Qt 5.6.0. I'm not sure which plugins are concerned exactly (because the error message is not very specific) but it is very likely that some QWidgets provided by KDE causing this.

EDIT: I just noticed that this issue is already discussed here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=210622
The plugin causing the issue is part of the qt5-quick1 package which has been removed from Qt with the 5.6.0 update and hence hasn't been updated like the other modules. Since nothing depends on it, you can simply remove the qt5-quick1 package to resolve this issue.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

My notifications after upgrade went back to old ones. I have notifications turned on in tray and all. I even added the plasmoid manually but still the notifications appear in upper right corner with old style.
EDIT: So after reboot everything is fine. Wierd I did logout and login.

Yep, I have the same problem. Default panels don't hide, no matter how many times I make a new one. If I add an empty panel it autohides as it should, but the default panel is still broken.

Also my dual monitor setup stopped working (nvidia and intel graphics), if I connect a display to my laptop, the laptop screen freezes and I can't click anything on it. Don't think I updated any video drivers this time, so this should be related to plasma update.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hello,

anyone having a scaling issue under wayland ? When I start the plasma-wayland-session all windows (except the non -Qt ones) are scaled up disproportionately. The fonts are also huge downscaling doesn't help .

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

Hi!

With plasma 5.6.0 I have switched desktop theme from "Breeze dark" to "Breeze" with the aim desktop theme will follow color theme, which is one of the interesting 5.6.0 feature. But after re-logging in I see Breeze dark desktop theme again (with own predefined colors).

Are you affected with the issue?

EDIT: Aha, have found: at first I must select Breeze workspace theme, and only then set needed color. This way desktop theme <-> color theme is persistent between plasma sessions.

Re: KF 5 & Plasma

I'm having a small bug with dolphin, the KDE file manager. I only use dolphin and konsole, none of the rest of the kde suite. Installing with pacman konsole and dolphin, when running dolphin in a terminal I get:

dolphin: error while loading shared libraries: libKF5KCMUtils.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

however, if I install plasma, it runs perfectly fine. Before this latest kde update it was fine. I'm not sure what package libKF5KCMUtils.so.5 comes from but it needs to be added as a dependency to dolphin.

edit: reported upstream
